Story
On March 9th, I’ll be running the Cambridge Half Marathon to raise funds for the Aplastic Anaemia Trust, a cause that is deeply personal to me. I’m dedicating this run to Bernadette my amazing Step-Mum, who in 2021 was diagnosed with Very Severe Aplastic Anaemia—a rare and life-threatening blood disorder that affects only 1 in 1,000,000 people.
Aplastic Anaemia stops the bone marrow from producing enough red and white blood cells and platelets, leaving patients vulnerable to a host of challenges. Aplastic anaemia treatment is very similar to the treatment someone might have for leukaemia - but because it's so rare, families often don't have access to the same information and support. Seeing Bernadette go through this was incredibly difficult, but her strength and positive outlook remind me why this cause matters so much.
The Aplastic Anaemia Trust is the only UK charity dedicated to supporting individuals and families affected by this rare condition. By donating, you’ll be helping to:
Fund life-changing research to discover new treatments.
Provide support for patients and families, such as educational resources for children facing long hospital stays.
Ensure no one faces this journey alone, through their vital support hotline.
Your contribution will help improve lives and bring hope to those fighting Aplastic Anaemia. Thank you!
