Story
Hi, my name is Rebecca Haryett.
First of all, thank you for visiting my JustGiving page. I’m incredibly excited to have been selected as one of 12 jockeys to race in this year's Goodwood Magnolia Cup on Thursday 1st August 2024.
Why have I entered this race?
- I'm very fortunate to have competed in dressage and show jumping when I was younger but have no experience in racing or even riding thoroughbreds. I applied for the Magnolia Cup with no expectations, assuming I wouldn't get through... 6 months later I secured a place in the race and 6 weeks ago I sat on a race horse for the first time.
- The other reason is to be able to support My Sisters’ House, the chosen 2024 charity.
What does it mean to me?
- Training and riding is my absolute focus! Every moment of spare time I have is committed to getting myself in the best possible place for the race. I just feel incredibly privileged to have been given this opportunity and want to give it my all.
How have I found the training so far?
- I've been riding out since March and, to be honest, initially it was terrifying! So incredibly different to any riding I have done before. The horses are so athletic, responsive and rapid!! I'm just trying to get as much time and experience in the saddle as possible around my full time job as a physiotherapist for the British Army.
Supporting My Sisters' House
- My Sisters' House is able to support women who are experiencing the most awful situations. I'd love to be able see this charity grow as much as possible by raising funds through donations from friends and family.
- If I ever doubt why I decided to take on this challenge of riding in the Markel Magnolia Cup I think back to why we are all doing this and that is to help support women who are living in vulnerable situations. My Sisters' House need funds so they can continue to provide counselling, advice, education and support for these women. Please do support if you can.
