8 volunteers from Weymouth SLSC are cycling Dieppe to Paris in July to raise funds for the surf lifesaving club—please sponsor us and support vital skills, safety, and community spirit! · 23 July 2025

Weymouth Surf Life Saving Club (WSLSC) is a volunteer-led, community-focused organisation dedicated to water safety, physical activity, and youth development. Our mission is to equip residents and visitors with vital lifesaving skills while promoting fitness, wellbeing, and community spirit across all ages and abilities. • We are training the next generation of lifeguards – We are a recognised base for regional Surf Lifeguard courses, with many members now working on Weymouth and West Dorset Beaches or volunteering with the RNLI, as a direct consequence of their involvement in the club. • Inclusive activities for all – From Sandhoppers, to Masters, we offer weekly training sessions for all abilities. We've piloted winter running clubs, are planning a ‘Couch to 5K’ programme, and offer free memberships for disadvantaged children. • Community wellbeing – We host open social events (e.g. Bonfire Night gatherings), engage with local charities like the Wave Project and Speak Out for mental health awareness, and champion beach accessibility, inclusive sessions, and family-friendly activities. • Strong local partnerships – We work alongside the RNLI, Weymouth Beach Control, the Wessex SLS regional group, and collaborate with local schools, youth organisations, and community groups.

Weymouth Surf Life Saving Club Fundraising Ride: Dieppe to Paris Challenge

We are a team of 10 dedicated volunteer coaches, water safety volunteers, parents, and lifeguards from Weymouth Surf Life Saving Club, taking on an epic challenge this July: cycling from Dieppe to Paris over three days — a true test of determination and teamwork!

Since starting in 2018, Weymouth Surf Life Saving Club has grown from humble beginnings to a thriving community of over 150 members. Our club is made up of passionate water safety volunteers, volunteer coaches, and members of all ages, from masters and seniors to youth, nippers, and sandhoppers.

Every Thursday evening, our young members come together to learn vital skills in water safety, lifesaving first aid, and so much more — developing confidence, resilience, and teamwork whatever the weather. Our clubhouse is also open one evening a week for them to come along, borrow boards, and just have fun in a safe, supportive environment. The kids who turn up week after week are simply awesome: polite, enthusiastic, and proud to be part of something that builds skills for life.

As a registered charity, our club relies on fundraising to keep delivering these essential opportunities and ensuring we can continue to grow and support our community. That’s why we’re asking for your help.

Please consider sponsoring us as we take on this cycling challenge. Every penny raised goes directly back to the club, helping us provide equipment, training, and unforgettable experiences for all our members. We are incredibly proud to be part of Weymouth Surf Life Saving Club, and with your support, we can keep it going strong for many years to come.

Thank you for anything you can give — it truly makes a difference.

Please share this post with your friends and family.
