Despite being one of the most protected species, badgers have a long history of cruelty and persecution. The Government-endorsed badger cull has seen the slaughter of over 230,000 badgers - estimated to be half the population and tens of thousands of badgers fall victim to wildlife crimes. From barbaric blood sports to a rise in planning and development which destroys badger setts and leaves territories fragmented, and the threat of traffic, every day is a fight for survival for our iconic badgers.

That’s why Badger Trust exists. They promote and enhance the welfare, conservation and protection of badgers, their setts and their habitats. They provide training to police to identify and successfully prosecute wildlife crimes, they train local badger groups to rescue and rehabilitate badgers within the community and they conduct research to understand the current badger population and identify future threats.
