The Cleveland Hike

The UK's leading charity for veterans' mental health. For over a century, we've helped former servicemen and women deal with issues like trauma, anxiety, depression and post-traumatic stress disorder. Today, we provide support to veterans from every service and every conflict.

Story

A team from 1AAC REME LAD are competing in the Cleveland Hike 24-25 Jun 23 to raise money for Combat Stress.

The team will cover a distance between 35-40 mile over two days (set by hike organisers) where each team member will be carrying 20kg with the team being self sufficient for the duration of the event. The hike involves navigating by map and compass over the North Yorkshire Moors to checkpoints roughly 5 mile apart. At each checkpoint an 'incident' will be completed. Each checkpoint incident could be a physical or mental challenge for all team members to tackle before being given the next checkpoint grid reference. The teams will overnight camp on the Saturday and set off early morning on the Sunday to complete the competition.

Combat Stress are the UK’s leading charity for veterans’ mental health.

For over a century, they’ve helped former servicemen and women deal with trauma-related mental health problems such as anxiety, depression and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

They’re on a mission to raise awareness that invisible injuries can be just as hard to cope with as physical ones. So when a veteran is having a tough time, they’re there to help them tackle the past and take on the future.
