This year River has decided to take part in the half marathon school challenge to which he will complete 11 miles in school and his final mile on the hoe on Sunday the Sunday 28th of April 2024. The past few years he absolutely smashed it and ended up running a fair few more miles in school than he needed to achieve his goal.

After talking to him about sponsorship he has decided he would again like to raise money for the children’s growth foundation, a lovey little charity that has been much help through their website, calls and their Facebook group since Norah’s paediatricians came to the realisation Norah has a genetic disorder causing growth restrictions amongst other things.

As a family we know first hand how important charities like this are, how stressful it is to be told ‘we believe it’s an extremely rare genetic mutation causing dwarthism, but we’re not genetically advanced enough to find it yet’ not knowing what comes next totally turns your world upside down. The child growth foundation have completely supported us throughout our journey so far in so many ways. From helping to source a research study that Norah is not finally a part of after exhausting all relevant genetic testing the NHS offer, to simply just being a listening ear at the end of the phone when things become really stressful. This research study could really be the key to one day having a diagnosis for Norah and I will forever be grateful for them telling us about it, and giving us the possibility of answers after a whirlwind journey.

They really are a lovely little charity who receive no government funding and rely solely on donations. They do brilliant things with all money raised to help children, adults and the families of those who have many different rare growth related conditions. They fund research into possible treatments/solutions, support professionals to treat conditions, run an annual convention to bring people together, run a lovely little community Facebook page, and have a website pack with such helpful information on so many growth conditions to name just a few things.

We are so proud of River for running this again this year taking his sister under his wing and for raising money for an amazing little charity.
