15 Miles for 49 Years:
Walking for Sobriety and Alcohol Change UK
Hi everyone,To mark my 49th birthday, my amazing girlfriend Courtney and I are taking on a serious challenge. On Saturday 3rd October, we will be walking a 15-mile route through the Lake District to raise vital funds for Alcohol Change UK.This charity works tirelessly to create awareness of the devastating damage that alcohol causes to our physical health, our mental well-being, and the loved ones around us. This cause is incredibly close to my heart because it is a battle I have lived through myself.
My Story:
For most of my life, I struggled with my mental health. Instead of facing my issues, I used alcohol as a way to mask and hide away from them. Over the years, the stress piled up. I experienced an estranged relationship with my parents, the heartbreaking death of my best pal, the breakdown of a 10-year marriage, and losing my home. On top of that, weight gain caused me to lose all my body confidence. In general, I had completely lost who I was.
The ultimate wake-up call—my true kick up the behind—came when alcohol began changing my personality. It made me someone I wasn’t, drove me into an incredibly deep depression, and ultimately led to a split from Courtney.
A Second Chance at Life:
Losing Courtney was the moment I knew things had to change forever. Today, I am incredibly grateful to say she has given me a second chance. I made a solemn promise to myself and Courtney that alcohol will not be a part of mine, or our, future together. As we prepare for this walk, I am now nearly 4 months completely sober. The difference is night and day. I am already a changed man. I am happier, calmer, more focused, and slowly getting back in great shape. Sobriety is truly a blessing, not a curse.
Why Your Donation Matters:
Alcohol harm is a hidden crisis. According to Alcohol Change UK, millions of people suffer in silence every day, and thousands of families are torn apart by the ripple effects of addiction. They work to change laws, improve support services, and crush the stigma surrounding alcohol issues so people can get help sooner.I want my journey to show anyone out there who is currently suffering that help is out there. You do not have to fight this alone, and it is never too late to reclaim your life.
Courtney and I are tackling these 15 miles to prove what can be achieved with a clear mind and a second chance. If you are able to donate—no matter how small the amount—you will be helping Alcohol Change UK support the next person who desperately needs a lifeline.Thank you so much for your support, your donations, and for helping me celebrate my 49th year in the best way possible.
With love and gratitude
Rob & Courtney
