Rory's fundraiser for Hansel

Rory Grey is raising money for Hansel

Rat Race 100 Ultramarathon [Bamburgh - Edinburgh] · 4 July 2026 to 6 July 2026 · Start fundraising for this event

Hansel is a Scottish charity and leading social care provider offering a range of services to people living with disabilities and additional needs. With your support we can keep making a difference to the lives of people, and their families, living with a learning disability in our community.

Story

All donations will be triple matched. Details below.

The Cause: Hansel

I am raising funds for The Hansel Foundation. The charity is personal to me, with my uncle having lived at Hansel Village for 54 years during which time he received incredible care and support.

The Plan

On the 4th and 5th of July, I am running the Rat Race 100 Castle to Castle ultra-marathon.

The 100 mile / 160km route starts at Bamburgh Castle in Northumberland and follows the east coast north to finish at Edinburgh Castle, 30ish hours later. Not being a natural long distance runner or having done anything like this before, I have no idea how this is likely to end, but with over 2000 km of training in preparation, I’m hoping to make it to the finish line. No promises though!

Thanks to my employer, Edrington, and its vision of Giving More by crafting exceptional ultra-premium spirits, together with its principal shareholder, The Robertson Trust (Scotland’s largest independent charitable trust), all donations will receive triple matching (capped at £15k).

What Hansel Does

Hansel is a leading social care provider, focused on breaking down barriers faced by people with additional support needs, creating inclusive environments, opportunities, and choices to enable people living in Ayrshire to live independent and fulfilling lives.

They provide vital, tailored services including:

• Supported Living: Independent and shared accommodation (like Hansel Village) where individuals are supported with the level of daily care they need to maintain their independence.

• Short Breaks & Respite: Purpose-built facilities that offer a welcoming "home away from home" for guests, giving their regular care givers a vital, well-deserved break.

• Employment & Education: Hands-on training, skills development, and employment opportunities through social enterprises like their laundry, tearoom and grounds maintenance services.

Many thanks for your generosity and support.
