Story
In November I will be taking part in an 100km Trek through the Sahara to fundraise money for Maggies Centres to add to the challenge in February I ruptured my ACL and will be aiming to complete this challenge with no ACL which I'm sure the sandy terrain will test...
Maggie's is a charity that is very close to my heart for numerous reasons... in the midst of COVID19 and lockdowns my dad was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer as a family we dealt with many hardships throughout this time but Maggies was a safe place where as a family we felt we could always pop in for a chat or cup of tea and where we would be met by people who understood, heard and supported us through everything we were dealing with from the first diagnosis til the very end.
Last year Maggie's became a safe haven again as my Mum had a routine mammogram that showed staged 1 Breast Cancer from weekly yoga and taking part in there art and activity classes Maggie's AGAIN was a breath of fresh air for mum and somewhere she could be whilst waiting and dealing with treatment and appointments. The added triggers of being in the same place where we had been for all of my dads treatments and appointments did mean that Maggie's was used for somewhere that didn't feel like a sterile and depressing space and instead used again for somewhere where you felt you could re connect with yourself and others who get it ... In positive news mum has had the all clear now!
In my opinion 100KM Trek in the Sahara is not even a challenge if compared to the challenges faced by those going through cancer and their loved ones... but I know that with a less than optimal knee structure this trek for me will come with a lot of mental and physical obstacles that I will hope to over come for a much greater cause!
Please help support me, Support Maggie's!
