I’m Emma Slade (Ani Pema Deki) and my charity, Opening Your Heart to Bhutan transforms the lives of children in Bhutan with additional needs. I am walking 403km in October for these children. Why not be a part of this vital work? Huge thanks!

Story

Emma's charity has grown from a humble start in rural East Bhutan 10 years ago. Due to the remoteness, children born with additional needs face extreme difficulties. The lack of tarmac roads makes it very hard to access a school where they can learn life and vocational skills. They can now enjoy every child's right to an education.

In 2015, Emma made a lifelong commitment to helping children with additional needs in any way she could.

It started by knitting hats, and then crucial fundraising for blankets and bedding for the children followed. This forged links between the East and West, and Emma’s charity was born.

Emma’s next challenge was to write a book about her story so far. From a previous life as a Financial Analyst, a life-changing event brought her to a new life as an ordained Nun. The royalties have boosted the charity’s funds.
