London to Brighton Challenge 2024 · 25 May 2024 ·
Becky, Claire, Jo and Carolyn have been friends since our children have been in nursery school - that's a long time! When Carolyn's daughter, Rosie, died suddenly aged 9 and half they (together with our friend Hiti, who died in 2016 of breast cancer) were always there for Carolyn and supported her with their friendship ever since. 2024 is the 20th year since the death of Rosie.
After the loss of Rosie, Carolyn also found the support of The Compassionate Friends (TCF) - through meeting other bereaved parents Carolyn found it was somehow possible to find ways to live without Rosie physically here. Now Carolyn works for TCF and is passionate about ensuring that all parents bereaved of a child can find and access the support of other bereaved parents that was a lifeline for her. You can watch some short videos below about TCF and the work we do.
The fundraising environment for bereavement support charities is really challenging right now - as so much funding has been diverted to cost of living causes. So, that's why we have all decided to walk 100km from Richmond to Brighton over 2 days to raise funds to help to continue and develop TCF's services and support for grieving parents. We must be mad! 100k is a LONG WAY. We would be grateful for any support you can give in memory of Rosie and for TCF. Please help us to help others.
The Team photo is from our first training walk around Richmond Park!
If you choose to support us, thank you.
love from Becky, Carolyn, Claire and Jo x
P.S. Our challenge is part of The Compassionate Friends' One Step At A Time fundraising campaign.
The Compassionate Friends supports parents grieving the loss of a child of any age (from one month old to an adult son or daughter). Our volunteers offer a national helpline open 365 days a year, support groups nationwide and retreats for those whose child has died by any cause. We also support adult brothers and sisters who are left behind. Thank you for helping us make a difference and enabling us to train our 300 volunteers, themselves bereaved parents.
