Carole, Amy and Lorna‘s fundraiser for Genesis Research Trust

Yorkshire Marathon 2023 · 15 October 2023 ·
Carole, Amy and Lorna - old friends from youth, will somehow drag each other around the Yorkshire Marathon in October, 2023. Kicking (probably not… the legs will be awfully busy) and screaming (almost certainly) around the beautiful North Yorkshire villages near York.
We are raising money for a hugely important research group: Genesis Research Trust (GRT), the UK’s largest collaboration of reproductive health researchers.
In the UK 1 in 4 pregnancies ends in miscarriage; 1 in 10 couples struggle to conceive; 9 babies are stillborn every day and 60,000 babies are born prematurely – 7% of all births.
The GRT‘s mission is to fund original research to investigate the causes of infertility, miscarriage, stillbirth, premature birth, and reproductive cancers, and to find better ways to diagnose and treat them. When you look at the numbers, challenges in child birth actually affect so many of us, and can have devastating outcomes.
So why the heck are we planning to run 42.2km, and why have we chosen this charity?
Simply put, a promise was made with a dear friend from childhood. The promise to run a marathon together before we reach 50 years of age. Tragically, for Jane, her physical presence with us ended way too soon, and her struggle to live with cancer all became too much. But she will still run! She runs every time we do - in the mind and heart.
And as for the charity choice, Jane‘s career in midwifery meant she was constantly faced with highs and lows of family planning, childbirth, complications in pregnancies and so on. By choosing this particular charity, she is even now working in the field which she was so passionate about.
Please dig deep, we know times are tough at the moment. But any donation is appreciated enormously.
