Story
Genesis Research Trust funds research to progress the understanding of miscarriage, stillbirth, preterm birth, and reproductive cancers, in order to reduce preventable baby loss.
Worldwide, there is a preterm birth every two seconds. One in four pregnancies end in miscarriage. In the UK, nine babies are stillborn every day and 60,000 babies are born premature.
When you look at the numbers, challenges in child birth actually affect so many of us, and can have devastating outcomes.
So why the heck are we planning to run 42.2km, and why have we chosen this charity?
Simply put, a promise was made with a dear friend from childhood. The promise to run a marathon together before we reach 50 years of age. Tragically, for Jane, her physical presence with us ended way too soon, and her struggle to live with cancer all became too much. But she will still run! She runs every time we do - in the mind and heart.
And as for the charity choice, Jane‘s career in midwifery meant she was constantly faced with highs and lows of family planning, childbirth, complications in pregnancies and so on. By choosing this particular charity, she is even now working in the field which she was so passionate about.
Please dig deep, we know times are tough at the moment. But any donation is appreciated enormously.
