Story

We're fundraising for Shooting Star Children's Hospices. This is a cause very close to my (Yano's) heart. Earlier this year, my niece Ayla tragically passed away very suddenly from a rare heart disease. It rocked us all to our core and it broke my heart. In Farsi, my parents' language, Ayla means moonlight. So whenever I look at the moon I am reminded of her and how it was the blessing of my life to have met her and held her in my arms.

After she passed I knew I wanted to do something in her memory. My sister Neda (Ayla's mum) had taken up running, so I'd join her and we'd spend time together. It was a lovely way of enjoying each other's company without explicitly talking about our emotions or grief. Doing a run in Ayla's memory felt right and I'm incredibly grateful to Nick for all his support and for wanting to do this together for Ayla.

When I told my sister and brother in law James (Ayla's dad) that we were going to be running a half marathon in her memory, they were both very touched and they recommended Shooting Star Children's Hospices as a charity which offers vital support to those that need it.

Shooting Star Children's Hospices care for babies, children and young people with life-limiting conditions, and their families across Surrey and London.

Losing a child is the most unspeakable loss and we would love to live in a world where no one has to suffer like this, but if they do, we want to help ensure they are able to get adequate care and the space to grieve.

Whether lives are measured in days, weeks, months or years, we are here to make every moment count. Shooting Star supports families from diagnosis to end of life and throughout bereavement with a range of nursing, practical, emotional and medical care.

Thank you in advance for any donations and support, we all massively appreciate it.
