Running for a future without FSHD

Scottish Half Marathon 2025 · 17 August 2025 · Start fundraising for this event
Hellooo, I have crazily signed up to run the Scottish half marathon!!! 🏃🏼♀️ I’m still relatively new to running, although the furthest I’ve run in one go is 10km!! A few years ago I could barely run 40 meters without my lungs hurting so that’s insane.
However, signing up for this marathon is not just for me building the strength to pass the finish line - it’s for my beautiful niece Phoebe. She was just five years old when she was diagnosed with Facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy (FSHD)—a rare, progressive muscle-wasting condition that slowly takes away the ability to do everyday things most of us take for granted: smiling, showing emotions, lifting your arms, walking without pain or struggle.
She’s now navigating a world where her muscles weaken, but her spirit stays strong. And let me tell you—Phoebe is the definition of strength. She’s incredibly smart, bright, brave, and full of light. But behind her smile, there’s a fight going on that no child should ever have to face.
There is currently NO cure, and things could get worse for Phoebe than they are at present. That’s why I’m not just running— I’m running with purpose. I’m raising funds for the Muscular Dystrophy charity, a lifeline for families like ours, and a driving force behind the research we so desperately need. In July last year we raised an incredible £13000 for the charity, with the help of our lovely LOVELY community through a bake sale. However, we won’t stop there.
This isn’t just about finishing a race. It’s about giving Phoebe, and every person affected by FSHD, the hope that one day, we can beat this disease. It’s about raising awareness and funding critical research to change their lives forever.
I’m running for Phoebe’s future. For the day we hear the words “We’ve found a cure!”. For every child whose world has been shaped by this cruel condition. I’m running for a future without FSHD.
Every single donation, no matter the size, brings us closer to better treatments, and one day, a cure. You’re not just sponsoring a run — you’re giving hope to a peerie girl who deserves the world.
*80% of your donation will go to research into FSHD and 20% which will be held in trust by the charity for Phoebe's future needs*
Thank you for taking the time to read this, and for any donations/support 🧡 Wish me luck though - am gonna need it 😳
