Ruth Stokes does Great North Run 2025

Ruth Stokes is raising money for FareShare North East

Great North Run 2025 · 7 September 2025 ·

FareShare North East is a surplus food re-distribution charity. We rescue good to eat surplus food that would have been wasted and give it to charitable organisations supporting people in poverty. Last year we delivered enough food for 3.89m meals.

Story

I volunteer with the charity FareShare NE in the warehouse, and out on the vans delivering food to our communities. I also enjoy (most of the time!) running. I decided to apply for the Great North Run in the ballot, and was surprised to get a place. It will be the longest run I'll have done for a good few years, so it will be a challenge.

To make me run and train, even when I don't feel like it, I decided to raise much needed funds for this small North East charity to get Good Food to Good Causes. It will hopefully give me that push to get out there, run and train, and help me to keep going on the day.

Last year FareShare rescued 1,630 tonnes of good to eat surplus food, enough for 3.9 million meals, reaching 30,000 people each week.

Please support me if you can, whether by sponsorship or moral support. It means a lot to me, and will mean a lot to FareShare NE and the communities we support
