Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

In April 2024, I lost my mum to alcohol related liver disease. She was only 57 years old.

From when I was aged 11, I realised my mum had a challenging relationship with alcohol owing to a myriad of complex reasons. Over the following 25 years that relationship with alcohol became more harmful until it eventually took everything from her, including her life.

For those that don’t know, in the U.K, one person every hour dies as a result of alcohol, and 200,000 children in England live with an alcohol dependent parent.

The stigma related to this disease means that research and support for those affected and their families is heavily lacking.

The charity Alcohol Change UK is not anti-alcohol, but works to reduce alcohol harm.

I’m fundraising for them by running the Great North Run to help them build a better treatment sector that is effective, properly funded, well commissioned and coordinated, and easy for people with drinking problems and their families to navigate.

Any support you can give would be hugely appreciated - perhaps have one less pint of beer or glass of wine this weekend and donate the price of it here instead 😉

Thanks again for visiting my page,

Ryan
