Story
Raising money for Alcohol Change UK by completing dry Jan and a combined 100k of running from the 1st - 31st of January.
After losing my Dad this time a year ago to an alcohol dependency I want to raise awareness around issues that are far too normalised by UK culture. It doesn’t just affect the people directly addicted but families and loved ones who care about the person affected often are overlooked.
This charity provides support to families, loved ones and the affected from alcohol. The charity offers training and consultancy services for professionals in healthcare, social care, and other sectors to improve their practice in supporting individuals with alcohol problems. Without these sort of services I know my Dad would have been in a much worse place and I hope that sharing this story and helping this charity can help other.
Thank you for reading my story.
About Alcohol Change UK:
‘We work for a society that is free from the harm caused by alcohol.
We are not anti-alcohol; we are for alcohol change. We are for a future in which people drink as a conscious choice, not a default; where the issues which lead to alcohol problems like poverty, mental health issues, homelessness are addressed; where those of us who drink too much, and our loved ones, have access to high-quality support whenever we need it, without shame or stigma.
How your donations can help:
* A donation of £20 could support around 20 people reduce their drinking through the Dry January® Challenge.
* £30 could help us develop and deliver more training for front line workers and improve support for dependent drinkers.
* £40 could cover the costs of supporting 16 people for six months to reduce their drinking through our Try Dry® app.’
