Story

Ataxia UK is the leading national charity in the UK for people affected by any type of ataxia. Ataxia is a neurological disorder that affects balance, coordination and speech. Ataxia UK funds research into finding treatments and cures, and offer advice, information and support to people affected by the condition.

I have two nieces diagnosed with a type of ataxia called Friedreich’s ataxia and they have inspired me to run for the 2025 London Marathon to fundraise donations for those who are affected by this rare, inherited disorder.

One of my nieces - who was born healthy - is now in a wheelchair with severely limited body movement because of her ataxia and also has impaired vision, speech and hearing due to this progressive disorder as well as Type 1 diabetes and requires 24-hour care. At this time, there is no cure for ataxia, but donations will help to provide support for the patients and families affected by ataxia and will hopefully one day lead to a cure.

My campaign has two main objectives:

To raise public awareness for people with ataxia and to raise funds which will give individuals living with ataxia, access to the best care, support and treatment, for example financial advice, speech therapy, essential adaptations to their home as well as emotional support and to ensure there will be no barriers preventing full inclusion in society.

Please donate to Ataxia UK so that we can continue this support and research.
