Story
On 30 May, I will set sail from Liverpool on a demanding leg of the Full Circle expedition—part of a 2,000-nautical-mile circumnavigation of the UK, supporting wounded, injured, and sick veterans. This journey is about challenge, recovery, and proving what’s possible through teamwork and resilience.
On 17 March, from the historic port of Falmouth in Cornwall, Full Circle set sail on an extraordinary expedition—a 2,000-nautical-mile circumnavigation of the United Kingdom celebrating the strength and spirit of our Armed Forces community.
Led by Turn to Starboard, this groundbreaking charity project brings together over 70 serving and veteran members of the Armed Forces who are wounded, injured, or sick, providing life-changing training and experiences at sea.
Over the course of 13 weeks, two magnificent tall ships will visit 22 ports around the nation’s coastline. This is more than a journey at sea—it is a living story of courage, service, and renewal; a reminder of how challenge and connection can heal, empower, and unite people.
I’m proud to be taking part in this incredible journey, joining Leg 5 from Liverpool to Falmouth, starting on 30 May.
After over 30 years in the British Army, constantly moving around the world and across the country, life after service slowed down—but brought challenges of a very different kind. Supporting ageing family members and losing a family member to suicide has been incredibly tough. The transition hasn’t been easy—but it’s through these experiences that this journey now means so much more to me.
Sailing changed that.
Through Turn to Starboard, I found a renewed sense of belonging, teamwork, and direction. Being out at sea, working as part of a crew, and pushing through challenges mirrors the resilience and camaraderie I knew in the military. Just as importantly, it has given me the opportunity to listen to and support others who have found the transition difficult or who are dealing with their own physical or mental injuries—something I value greatly.
Now, I’m taking that one step further.
The Challenge:
Leg 5 of the Full Circle expedition will take me from Liverpool to Falmouth, a demanding coastal passage requiring:
Long hours at sea
Teamwork and trust
Navigation and seamanship skills
Physical and mental resilience
It’s not just about reaching the destination—it’s about being part of something bigger.
Why I’m Asking for Support:
I’m raising funds to go towards supporting the ongoing work of Turn to Starboard, helping more veterans access life-changing opportunities like this.
Why It Matters:
This journey represents more than just me.
It reflects the spirit of the Invictus community—overcoming challenges, rebuilding strength, and supporting one another. Every mile sailed is a reminder that recovery is possible, and that purpose can be found again.
