Sandy's fundraiser for Terry Fox Run Wrexham (The Institute of Cancer Research (ICR)

The Terry Fox Run Wrexham · 13 October 2024 ·
The Terry Fox Foundation is dedicated to funding cancer research in honour of Terry.
For those who dont know, Terry Fox, is a Canadian hero who embarked on a cross-country run, known as the Marathon of Hope. Terry’s cancer diagnosis of osteogenic sarcoma just above the knee, the subsequent amputation of his leg and experience in the cancer wards changed all that. Because of what he was seeing, he wanted to do something to help, so Terry started training and planned for his cross-Canada run to raise funds for cancer research.
He dipped his artificial leg in the Atlantic Ocean on April 12th, 1980 and proceeded to unite Canadians in a way never before, nor since, seen. The only thing that could have stopped Terry from reaching the Pacific Ocean did. Cancer returned in his lungs and he was forced to stop on September 1st, 1980 after having run 5,373 kilometres.
Here are some key reasons why I am taking part in this years run:
Supporting Cancer Research (In the UK): All the money raised goes toward cancer research, which can lead to better treatments, earlier detection, and hopefully one day, a cure.
Terry Fox's Legacy: Terry Fox's determination and courage inspire millions worldwide. He ran 143 days and over 5,000 kilometers on one leg before his cancer returned, forcing him to stop. His dream of finding a cure for cancer continues through the foundation.
Community Impact: The Terry Fox Run is a non-competitive event held in communities worldwide. By participating, you're joining a global effort, connecting with others who share the goal of fighting cancer.
