Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

In June this year my friend Cheryl and her family were told the devastating news that their 4 year old daughter Mabel had Battens disease. At the time, I like so many had never heard of this neurodegenerative disease that affects an estimated 30-50 children in the whole of the UK. This condition can affect a child’s ability to walk, speak and see. There is currently no cure for this life limiting condition but Mabel has started treatment at St Mary’s Hospital in Manchester to slow down the degeneration process.

My family want to support Cheryl’s and others by raising awareness of this cruel disease and hopefully some money for the amazing Battens disease family association.

So the Elson challenge. Each of us in January 2024 (we need some training time 😂) will run a distance we’ve never ran before. James (8 years old) will be running 5K, Josh (12 years old) will be running 10K, me (Sarah - some where over 30) will be running 15K 😬 and Peter (somewhere over 40) will be running 20K.

As a family we would appreciate anything you can donate to this worthy cause so family’s like Cheryl’s can be supported as they navigate through the world of Battens disease.

Thank you for taking the time to visit this page xx
