My grandad was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s some years ago, and I watched the man I knew and loved slowly transform into a shell of the man he once was.

This incredible man was the heart and soul of our family, the centre of everything we organised, and the reason we all love cake - we learnt from example for sure.

What do I remember about him? He was ALWAYS smiling, even towards the end, he always had that beautiful smile, oh and that perfectly amazing sense of humour.

Alzheimer’s took my grandad from me, which absolutely shattered my heart, but ultimately he is now at peace, and the memories we shared will stay with me for my lifetime.

This October I will be running the Manchester half marathon along side some of my wonderful family members, to raise vital funds for Alzheimer’s Society.

At Alzheimer’s Society they’re working towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives. They do this by giving help to those living with dementia today, and providing hope for the future. We want to be a part of this hope, and contribute to the success of providing stability for families living with, or who will live with this cruel disease in the future.

Running is not my forte, but when asking people to support and donate to a charity, I feel it needs a challenge, so here we are!!
