Sarah's fundraiser for The Lewy Body Society

Sarah Planchak is raising money for The Lewy Body Society
In memory of John Planchak

Shaving my Head · 28 January 2026

Lewy body dementia is the second most common cause of age-related dementia, affecting around 130,000 people in the UK. We raise awareness of the disease, provide information to patients and carers, and fund research so that in future it can be more easily diagnosed and treated.

Story

My wonderful grandfather, ‘Papa John,’ passed away a few months ago after being diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia. Despite being the second most common form of dementia, more research is needed for diagnosis, treatment, and prevention.

Papa had a buzz cut most of my life, so to honour him, and to raise money for LBD research, I am going to shave my head (and donate my hair as an added bonus) on January 28th- world Lewy Body day. Please sponsor me to do so with any donation that you are able to- every little helps- so that we can help mitigate this awful disease.

The Lewy Body Society was founded in 2006 to support research into Lewy body dementia and to raise awareness of the disease. We aim to educate the public, the medical professions and those in decision-making positions about the disease, which unfortunately is still not well known.
