We provide specialist services across Gloucestershire for people with acquired brain injuries, their partners, families, friends and carers. This means supporting people as they adjust to the physical, psychological, economic and social changes that can be brought about through an acquired brain injury. Our Enablement Service is centre based and open every weekday offering activities that focus on the five elements of rehabilitation: This takes the form of a structured timetable so that survivors can select the activities that help them work towards their goals. Our Individual Support Service is designed to meet individual needs, abilities and preferences with a focus on supporting survivors, their families and carers to come to terms with the changed circumstances brought about by brain injury. Story

As some of you know my dad suffered a traumatic brain injury in January 2024. This has been a monumental change for my dad and our family, which hasn’t been an easy path to navigate. Before the brain injury my dad was a hard working road marker for 20 years, fiercely independent and social. Unfortunately after spending two weeks in Southmead ICU and a total of 3 months in hospital his normal was turned upside down taking not only his work life but, dad’s whole life as well.

Thankfully we have had the support of Headways Gloucestershire a charity who provide not only support and rehabilitation for brain injury survivors but also support for their families and careers. Without this much needed support from Headways we wouldn’t have been able to help dad to try and understand navigating his new way of life.

I decided to take on the challenge of running my first half marathon alongside my husband with the aim to fundraise and be able to give back, so that Headways can carry in their hard work supporting other families and survivors
