Save lives in the area with a defibrillator on Wrentham Ave

Giles Deards is raising money for Friends of Kensal Rise Library
Having defibrillators nearby can improve someone’s chances of surviving cardiac arrest by 70%. But Kensal Rise and the neighboring streets have poor defib coverage. Help the Library raise money to install defibrillators for our community.

Story

Hundreds of lives can be made safer for Wrentham/Crediton/Dundonald/Okehampton/Tiverton/the Avenue residents by installing a defibrillator.

This would be available, 24/7, to all of us thanks to sponsorship by the Maqam who will install, host and power the device.

The total cost will be £2,500 - a sum we can easily reach for just £10 per household (plus Gift Aid) assuming 200 homes contribute.

Currently, if anyone had a cardiac arrest on our roads you would need to run to Station Terrace and back.

Please click below to make this possible as soon as possible and/or contact me on 07753 949 301 if you have any questions.

LOCAL BACKGROUND

The Maqam defib is part of a wider campaign for seven 24/7 defibs in the area, led by Kensal Rise Library, supported by QPARA, APRATA, KRRA, Akoya, Beyond Health - Queens Park, and many residents.

Money raised in this campaign will be ring-fenced for the device at the Maqam.

Kensal Rise has been designated a priority area by the London Ambulance Service & we've discovered that - according to the national defib register - there is no 24/7 defib available between Station Terrace and Kilburn!

Kensal Rise Library has organised CPR training for 14 Oct, 2025 and Akoya wants to organise further training by London Ambulance Service for Queens Park.

SURVIVING CARDIAC ARRESTS

Each year in Britain around 30,000 people are struck by sudden cardiac arrest outside of hospital environments. They can affect anyone at any time -- from young children at school to adults when they're at home, work or in public places.

If victims aren't treated properly, more often than not, cardiac arrests are fatal.

That's why it's so important to have defibrillators that provide high-energy electric shocks to the heart in as many public places as possible - if a defib is used within 3-5 minutes of cardiac arrest, survival rates jump from 6 to 74 percent.
