🚴♂️ Hinderwell Gardener Takes on 700km Canary Islands Cycling Challenge for Charity ❤️
John Treacher, a 41-year-old gardener from Hinderwell, near Whitby, is set to take on a gruelling 700km cycling challenge across the Canary Islands to raise funds for Scarborough & District Mencap. ❤️
The event, known as the Granguanche, spans five islands, starting in Lanzarote and ending with a lap of El Hierro. With over 16,000 meters of elevation gain ⛰️ and 70% off-road terrain, it promises to be an extreme test of endurance.
John is calling on the local community to support his efforts by sponsoring him and helping to raise vital funds for Scarborough & District Mencap, which provides essential services for people with learning disabilities. 🙌 His challenge aims to contribute towards the £1.2 million needed for Scarborough & District Mencap’s new "Big Build Project", which will create improved facilities for those who rely on the charity’s support. 🏗️
“This challenge is going to be incredibly tough,” John said. “But knowing that I’m helping members of our local community who rely on Scarborough & District Mencap will give me the motivation to keep going.” 💪
Katrina Taylor, CEO of Scarborough & District Mencap, praised John’s commitment: “John is an old friend of mine who loves an adventure, so I challenged him to help with our fundraising efforts. I have no doubt he’ll do us proud.” 👏
