Story

Scarborough and District Mencap was formed by a group of parent/carers in 1953 to provide awareness, facilities and support for people with a learning disability and their parent/carers.

We are an independent local Mencap charity, registered separately with the Charity Commission and affiliated to the Royal Mencap Society.

We provide a range of services to support adults and children with a learning disability, such as Day Services, flexible community support, domiciliary care, and teatime and evening clubs.

Our Current Centre is called - Brookleigh. The organisation has been based at Brookleigh since 1978 which the Trustees bought in 1985. During the past 40 years there have been many alterations and adaptations to the building and site.

We are now seeking support to build a better future with state-of-the-art facilities and activities fit for the future needs of our services, team and organisation.

Support us in our mission to achieve this.
