Story

In Memory of Stephen Robert Woolley

“Steve / Sten” 02/11/1962 - 06/01/2024

Steve had been a lifelong Vale Fan.

He first went to the Vale with his Dad when he was almost 3 yrs old and followed them home and away ever since.

After working all of his adult life, Steve took early retirement aged 59.

Steve had planned to spend his retirement following the Mighty Vale during football season, travel the world with his partner, our mum Jill and spend time with family and friends.

Unfortunately, Steve started to feel unwell and was diagnosed with bladder cancer in January 2023.

After surgery and chemotherapy the initial outlook, although incurable, looked promising with the probability of a good few years.

This was short lived when in October, the cancer became extremely aggressive and Steve became very unwell.

He married Jill this year on January 5th and sadly passed away on January 6th.

In memory of Steve, my Brother Kevin and myself intend doing a sponsored walk of atleast 40 miles.

We will be leaving our homes in Chesterfield on 26th April and arriving at Port Vale ground on 27th April. We aim to arrive in time for the last match of the season against Cambridge at 1500.

Steve was an important part of our family, very much loved by everyone that knew him and will be sorely missed by us all.

The chosen charities for this fundraising are

The Port Vale Foundation

And

The Douglas MacMillan hospice,

Both are based in Stoke on Trent.

As I can't create a single page for two chosen charities, I will be sharing two individual JustGiving links.

All we ask is that if you are able to donate, that you may think about splitting the donation equally between the two pages.

And if you could share the links for each page this would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Scott & Kevin McKechnie and Paul Woolley
