Story

In walking to Whissonsett, we hope to honour and remember the Seagrim brothers, whilst also raising money for an important charitable cause. A sign near Whissonsett village church honours the memory of two remarkable brothers: Derek and Hugh Seagrim. They are the only siblings ever to be awarded, separately, the Victoria Cross (VC) and the George Cross (GC). Although they themselves are buried far away, their names are on a family grave in the Whissonsett churchyard and on the village war memorial. When Seagrim House was created at Norwich School, it was hoped that all members of the house would strive to follow these particular qualities of the Seagrim brothers:Courage, Forbearance, Selflessness, Determination, Consideration, Compassion and Patience. Every day, Great Ormond Street Hospital welcomes over 600 children and young people for life-changing treatments. Every day, patients, families and staff battle the most complex illnesses, but every day the hospital is a place where being sick does not always mean being sad. It is a place where you’ll find some of the bravest people you could ever meet. This extraordinary hospital has always depended on charitable support. We hope to raise a considerable sum in order to offer support to its children and families.
