Zac's Place is raising support to assist with sustaining its well established work in Swansea into the next generation. This includes making provision for additional staff and volunteers, and also significant improvements to our city centre HQ.

Story

As Sean runs this years Swansea 10k it is perhaps more personal than ever as he continues to raise funds to maintain the essential food provision service at Zac’s Place.

He has always enjoyed staying as fit as possible, but these days regular exercise has become an essential discipline in his life. A couple of years ago he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s, a degenerative neurological condition that can have over forty different symptoms. Alongside a strict medication regime to reduce the effects of the condition, Sean chooses to exercise regularly to help combat some of the symptoms, especially those that produce muscle cramps, freezing, and slow and awkward movement.

As he has had to find a new regime and discipline in his life to function each day, so many of our friends that come for support at Zac’s Place also build in the discipline of visiting Zac’s Place and other outlets for support regularly. It becomes a necessary discipline for their survival from one day to the next.

Sean expects to run the 10k ok, but Parkinson’s is often full of surprises and frequently throws a spanner in the works so don’t be surprised if you see Sean running fine one minute, then hardly moving a bit later. Either way, we take great inspiration from many of our friends at Zac’s Place, whose perseverance amid adversity challenges us to keep going also.

Your sponsorship at this time will help us sustain essential services for those experiencing food poverty and homelessness at a time when the cost of living is having a big impact not only for our guests, but for us as we purchase food and prepare it.

Thank you for your support
