Sensory Workshops for Elders (24hr Board Games Marathon 2025)

Mhari Robinson is raising money for Independent Arts Projects

24hr Board Games Marathon · 30 November 2025

This project offers folks aged 60-91 in Govanhill opportunities for connection, creativity, self-expression and relaxation. Participants describe the workshop sessions as, “better than my medication.”

Story

We need your support to help raise enough money so that we continue to provide Sensory Workshops for Elders at Dixon Community in Govanhill in 2026.

We will be playing board games for 24hrs from 12noon on Saturday 29th to 12noon on Sunday 30th November (St Andrew's Day 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿) to raise money to continue this much-loved project in 2026.

We are: Mhari, Ayo, Chloe, Leigh, Marion, Michelle, Roz, Sara & Tash: a group of staff and trustees from IAP. We care deeply about this project and want to make sure that we can fund the project for another year.

For almost four years, we have been delivering Sensory Workshops for folk aged 60-91 at Dixon Community, Govanhill in Glasgow.

Workshops are a mix of movement, art-making and music and take place at Dixon Community and also on day trips to beaches or gardens.

“better than my medication.”

Participants benefit from improved wellbeing from having regular space for connection with others and with nature, and a sense of belonging. They develop more confidence in themselves and their bodies.

Participants & staff at Dixon say:

“It lifted my depression and sadness”

“It stops my aches and pains”

“It’s good for everyone’s wellbeing, especially mental health."
