Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
A joke with one of my colleagues has resulted in me signing myself up for a White Collar Charity Boxing Fight on:
Friday 9th June
The intention was to do this Charity fight as an excuse to do something that would shock you all to raise awareness for Addiction, in memory of my mum and uncle who we sadly lost through their own addictions.
But since I started training for the last 6 ish weeks, I’ve really developed a taste for it. It’s made me realise that having an addictive personality doesn’t always have to be negative.
Addiction Awareness saves lives because being aware of it is half the battle and I stand by that statement. The negative stigma around addiction is what makes overcoming the disease so much harder for those who have it. We need to change the way we think because not all addicts are the ones you see begging on the street or in films, most of them who suffer with the disease have been functional addicts for years and years before it even gets to that stage!
BUT, being aware of your addictive personality not only can stop it from taking over your life. It means you can utilise it to its fullest extent. I’ve certainly inherited my mothers addictive personality, at first I was scared but the more I've studied it, I’ve realised I can use it as important knowledge and been able to avoid certain things in fear of it taking over my life.
Training for this fight has certainly fuelled my addictive personality, but in a positive way. Anyone who knows me knows I’m as clumsy as they come, dyspraxic and the definition of ADHD. Before this I had never run for more than 30 seconds at one time, would always skip cardio at the gym and could barely lift hardly any weight on my arms and to top it off I’d never even punched or been punched by someone before!
But their lives taught me that life is too short, and if there’s something you wanna do, do it now whilst you can! So that’s what I’m doing….
I've chosen FAVORUK because their ethos and mission statement is the same reason I am doing this, the stigma around addiction needs to go to allow people to be open and ask for help early on, so if you can't come watch please do donate and allow them to continue on their mission to support those who have addiction themselves and those who have been affected by addiction.
