14 Sheffielders will be cycling on the Big Ride for Palestine to raise funds for the Gaza Sunbirds

The Gaza Sunbirds are a para-cycling team, consisting of 20 athletes, based in the Gaza Strip. The team was founded in 2018 when Alaa al-Dali, an Olympic hopeful cyclist, was shot in the leg by an Israeli sniper. They are currently distributing aid.

Story

This August, 14 of us from Sheffield and the Hope Valley will be taking part in the Big Ride for Palestine, riding with 250 cyclists from Swansea to Bristol over 3 days to support the Gaza Sunbirds, a paracycling team from Palestine.

We are Lizzie, John, Jo, Emer, Jon, Hils, Heather, Marie, Janet, Pam, Judy, Maggie, Bob, Peter - we all love cycling and think everyone should have the right and the freedom to ride!

We are cycling to raise awareness of the injustice that the Palestinian people face on a daily basis and to celebrate their resilience and bravery. We all feel inspired by the Gaza Sunbirds and we hope you will feel equally inspired!

The Big Ride for Palestine is an annual charity bike ride, that uses cycling as a mechanism to inform people and show solidarity with our Palestinian brothers and sisters. Like last year, the Big Ride is supporting the Gaza Sunbirds with the aim to get them to the Paralympics in France in 2024. By becoming backers of the Gaza Sunbird team, you can help us get this project off to a flying start.
