Raising money for Day One Trauma Support

To celebrate Day One Trauma Supports fifth anniversary as a national charity, our dedicated team are joining together for our first event overseas trek! Together we can help more people to rebuild their lives after serious and life-changing injury.

Story

Esther Ralston, Head of Business Development at Simpson Millar, will be fundraising over the next couple of months through a range of different activities in support of Day One Trauma Support.

From 17th - 21st June 2026, Esther will will take on three countries in three days of trekking, circling the highest peak in Western Europe. As part of the Tour de Mont Blanc Trek team, she is hiking through Italy, Switzerland and France to raise money for this vital cause.

Why this matters

Major trauma can happen to anyone, at any time. Every year in the UK, thousands of people suffer life-changing injuries from incidents such as road collisions, workplace accidents, violent assaults or falls. Emergency medical teams work around the clock to save lives, but once someone leaves hospital, the road to recovery is often long, complex and overwhelming.

Whilst some people may be able to bring a legal claim after major trauma, for example, if someone else was responsible for the incident, many others have no legal route to compensation. Legal claims can sometimes help cover the cost of rehabilitation, specialist treatment, home adaptations and long-term support, but when the injury was caused by an accident where no one is at fault, that option simply isn’t available.

In those cases, survivors are often left facing serious emotional, practical and financial challenges with very little external help. That’s where Day One Trauma Support steps in, making sure people aren’t left to rebuild their lives entirely on their own.

About Day One Trauma Support

Day One Trauma Support is a national charity that provides hands-on, personalised support for people affected by major trauma, starting from the moment of injury. Their help is tailored to each individual and covers emotional support, peer mentoring, financial assistance and guidance with housing, work and welfare issues.

They support people during hospital stays and continue that support throughout their recovery journey. Whether someone needs help paying for emergency essentials such as travel or food, is struggling emotionally, or has no one else to turn to, Day One is there to make sure they’re not alone.

The charity receives no government or NHS funding and relies entirely on public donations and fundraising to keep going. Every pound raised helps them reach more survivors and families during some of the most difficult times in their lives.
