Lyke Wake Walk for Disasters Emergency Committee Middle East Appeal

Siobhan Snowdon is raising money for Disasters Emergency Committee

Lyke Wake Walk · 28 June 2025

Millions of people across Gaza, Lebanon and the wider region are in urgent need of food, shelter and medical care. Please help now. The UK Government will match pound-for-pound up to £10 million donated by the public to this appeal.

Story

Despite the enormous difficulties aid agencies are facing in getting humanitarian assistance into Gaza, local partners of the DEC charities continue to provide aid in desperate circumstances and in the face of mounting need.

On Saturday 28th June 2025 I will be walking the Lyke Wake Walk, in aid of the DEC Middle East Humanitarian Appeal.

The Lyke Wake Walk links ancient burial mounds and coffin rounds for 42 miles across the North York Moors, from Osmotherley to Ravenscar. It is named after an old Yorkshire folk song, the Lyke Wake Dirge, which tells of a soul’s passage through the afterlife and how we are judged on the charity we give to others. This is a walk to remember those who have died in the conflict and help those who are now at risk of death.

£30 could provide blankets to keep six people warm

£50 could provide provide emergency food for five families for a week

Please give as generously as you can.
