A staff team from Suffolk New College are taking part in this years Dragon Boat race on 6th June, to raise money for Brave Futures. We will represent the college as part of our college sport team, The SNC RAMS (or in our case, compared to our students, the SNC Mutton).

Working with young people is our bread and butter but... we acknowledge that we can't do it alone. Charities and services like Brave Futures are essential in ensuring that children and young people have access to the support they need for whatever their reason.

Brave Futures is a specialist support service for children and young people up to the age of 18 years who have experienced sexual abuse. They work throughout Suffolk and Norfolk, providing a safe place for children and young people to make sense of the confusion they feel. Brave Futures give children and young people the skills and tools they need to re-build their futures, manage the trauma they have experienced and help them move from victim to survivor.

The stats are frightening. Brave Futures tell us that 1 in 10 children are victims of sexual abuse; 90% know their abuser, and that 1 in 3 will never disclose their abuse. As a college, working with young people is everything to us and those statistics hit home.
