Around 26 years ago my sister, Chloe became best friends with a girl named Nicola, they have remained inseparable ever since and Nicola has become a sister to us. Nicola’s mum, Yvonne became a second mum to Chloe, my mum’s best friend and like an aunt to the rest of us. Yvonne was one of the kindest, most genuine people any of us have ever had the pleasure of knowing. Yvonne never missed a birthday card and tried her best to make it to every family event she was invited to and when she couldn’t make it you always felt her absence. Her smile lit up the room and her laugh was infectious.

Sadly not many people know that inside, Yvonne was battling things that none of us can begin to imagine. Yvonne fought so unbelievably hard and bravely with her mental health for so long. Just after Christmas last year we sadly lost Yvonne and the world will never be the same without her. We will make sure we speak about all of the wonderful memories Yvonne left us with for the rest of our lives. This climb is dedicated to her and is our way of thanking her for everything that we never got to thank her for. 💙

I’ll also be thinking of my cousin, Fallon who passed before her life began. The pain her passing caused my aunt and her family was unimaginable and I know it’s something they still struggle with today. It’s not often spoken about how much baby loss affects families and their mental health.

This hike won’t be an easy one, many of our group suffer with our physical and/or mental health but it’s extremely important to myself and the rest of the group that we do this.
