Story
1 in 4 people in the UK will experience mental health problems at some point in their life. North Lincolnshire Mind is our local, independent mental health charity that offers support, advice, and hope to anyone who is struggling. They are here for everyone and anyone who might need it: in person, by phone, or online, because no one should face a mental health problem alone.
When diagnosed with Epilepsy in 2017, my entire world changed. The prospect of living with a long-term medical condition was not a route I ever envisioned for my life. Despite the hard work of GPs and Neurologists, they have yet to find any triggers for my seizures. My independence was stripped away; I left my job, moved back home, and for a long time lacked the confidence to even go to the toilet unsupervised.
Eight years later, while my seizures are stable, the mental toll of not knowing when or why the next seizure might occur is significant. My family and friends have been phenomenal and have supported me to reach where I am today: living alone, in a job I love, with all the support around me that I could need. However, there is little experience of Epilepsy within my support circles. This is where I have personally benefitted from North Lincolnshire Mind.
Through talking therapy provided by this incredible charity, I am beginning to find ways to learn how to live with my diagnosis and continue building a life that brings me happiness. It truly is good to talk; while it may sometimes be challenging, it can save lives.
I am participating in the North Lincolnshire Mind Mental Elf 2025 on November 30th, 2025. My goal is to raise £250 for this vital cause that has made such a difference in my life. Please consider supporting me as we work together to ensure that no one faces their mental health challenges alone.
