When asked about Kim Dong-hun's status in the second division during a briefing before the game against the SSG at SSG Landers Field in Incheon on Wednesday, Kiwoom manager Hong Won-ki said, "I heard he had an elbow injury. I heard that the team's public relations team will release a press release for more information."
Kiwoom said Kim Dong-heon is scheduled to undergo surgery to join ligaments in his right elbow. Kim Dong-heon was examined by a hospital for elbow pain while playing in the second division, and was diagnosed with a ligament rupture. I checked at two hospitals for cross-checking, but the results were the same.
A Kiwoom official said, "The degree of ligament rupture is a little severe, so we need to undergo MCL surgery. The surgery is necessary, and the date of the surgery is as early as possible, and we will discuss it with the player again before setting the schedule.
"Since rehabilitation takes one year, the field's opinion is that it would be better to have the surgery early considering the return of the surgery next year. (The date of surgery) I think I need to have some discussions with the player," he said.
Kim Dong-hun was sent down to the second division after the opening game because he had a problem with his throwing. After the opening game, he played in two games and recorded one hit in five times at bat before moving down to the second division on Mar. 27. He played in three games in the Futures League. He last played in a game against LG's second division on Apr. 5.
Kim Dong-heon, who joined Kiwoom as the 12th player in the second round of the rookie draft in 2023, played 102 games last year, recording a batting average of 242 percent (51 hits in 21 at-bats) with two homers and 17 RBIs with an OPS of .631. He was selected as a member of the national team for the Hangzhou Asian Games and was exempted from military service with a gold medal around his neck.
