Story
Thank you so much for taking part in my fundraiser. Organizations like Da'aro Youth Project are responsible for some of the most crucial and vital communities for children who come to the UK alone to seek a better life. Acting as a bridge in understanding their new home, Da'aro offers important support, compassion, and means for youth to feel empowered and that is why I am running the Saucony 10K to raise money and awareness for this amazing organization. I am extremely passionate about providing accessibility and support to immigrant communities as the daughter of Eritrean immigrants myself. It was a no brainer for me to support in the way that I can by participating in the 10K and I hope you consider finding your own ways to support as well-- and this could be a great way to start!
You can learn more about their mission from their website here:
Our mission is to promote the well-being and empowerment of young individuals who arrive in the UK alone after traumatic journeys.
We strive to create a sense of belonging, to provide direct support, to build bridges within the East African communities, and to advocate for changes in unfair and discriminatory systems which undermine well-being. Through our youth clubs and intensive casework and mentoring support we offer a safe and enjoyable space for young people to relax, socialise, play games, and receive the assistance they need.
Our approach includes fostering advocacy skills, empowering young individuals to advocate for themselves, and creating positive changes in their lives. We aim to overcome social isolation, discrimination, and hostility by building sustainable relationships of trust and support within the East African communities, enabling these young people to overcome marginalisation and to thrive in society
