Story

On Saturday 7th June, I am taking part in the Midnight Walk 2025 for St Catherine's Hospice!

St Catherine's Hospice cares for local people at the end of their lives in East Surrey and West Sussex. Every step I take at the Midnight Walk will help the hospice be there for local people, their family and friends when life comes full circle.

As you may know, each year, for many years, my lovely wife, Carol, and I held Open Gardens at Tollsworth Manor and, thanks to your wonderful support to date, these events have raised over £130,000 for cancer related charities (mostly for St Catherine’s Hospice). We were so grateful to St Catherines when they helped care for Carol, so wonderfully, during the last months of her own illness.

This year, sadly, there will NOT be an Open Garden at Tollsworth Manor.

Next year I will be putting the house on the market and the work involved in preparing the house for sale and decluttering is massive, so that is taking up my time right now.

I very much regret not having an Open Garden in 2025, because last year‘s event was so joyous and raised a record amount of money, over £7,300 for St Catherine’s Hospice.

It was so special, sharing Carol’s wonderful garden with you all in the sunshine, and enjoying together the live music, plant sales, wonderful stalls, classic cars, dog training, animal shows, refreshments etc. etc.

St Catherine’s Hospice is in desperate need for money and despite excellent management and lobbying ministers etc to try to get funds from the government, they have recently had to reduce their staff by 40 experienced nurses, so……..

Instead of having the Open Garden I am trying to match last year’s figure of £7,300, for St. Catherines Hospice, by doing a 7 mile Midnight Walk on the 7th of June and I wondered if you might like to sponsor me, to help me on my way to this goal?

If you would, please follow the Just Giving donation link.

If you feel there are just too many calls on your generosity in these rather trying times, then on behalf of the Hospice and myself, thank you for all your support over the years.

Very best wishes

Gordon
