Story

Twenty years ago this month, six fans of Inverness Caledonian Thistle set out from Caledonian Stadium to walk 160 miles to the last game of the season at the final game ever to be played at the old Brockville Stadium in Falkirk. A couple of months earlier, Inverness had beaten Celtic in the Scottish Cup, the second time they had performed the feat in three years. Now, all these years later, the two teams face off against each other again in the Scottish Cup Final at Hampden Park in Glasgow on Saturday June 3rd.

On May 30th, in the week leading up to the final, one of the original Caley Thistle Highland Marchers, Steve Taylor, now 70, will set out once again from Caledonian Stadium, but instead of being on foot this time around, Steve will attempt to cycle 185 miles to Hampden Park in Glasgow, via Celtic Park, in a single day, supported by another of the original marchers in Rob Wilson.

What is it they say down in Glasgow "We never stop"....

The event, dubbed "The Road To Hampden", will take in the long sixty mile climb to the Drumochter Pass south of Dalwhinnie, famous for its distillery, before meandering down into the central belt of Scotland through Pitlochry then bypassing Perth en route to Stirling and onward to Glasgow.

The Road To Hampden is supporting two charities:

The Celtic Foundation has always been an integral part of the football club, uniting the Celtic Family around the world in collectively-held values and beliefs. Celtic FC Foundation is a registered Scottish charitable incorporated organisation (number SC024648), striving to honour the charitable principles and heritage of Celtic Football Club. The Foundation aims to respond to the needs of disadvantaged children, young people and adults in the local communities to improve Health, promote Equality, encourage Learning and tackle Poverty.

Mikeysline was founded in 2015 after a tragic number of suicides in the Highland area, and since then, has supported many people in emotional distress, struggling with their mental health. A grassroots charity (number SC046574), Mikeysline remains true to its core aims and to the people of the Highlands and Moray. Its focus is to support people of all ages at the most difficult and vulnerable points in their life, offering accessible support to those that need it most, raising awareness about mental health, helping break down stigma and barriers and preventing the loss of life to suicide. John Robertson, currently the Sporting Director of Inverness Caledonian Thistle, is an ambassador for Mikeysline.
