Steven Collins is raising money for Stickler Syndrome UK

London Marathon 2026 · 26 April 2026 ·

Stickler Syndrome UK aims to raise awareness of Stickler syndrome amongst the medical profession; promote the value of early diagnosis and help preserve vision, hearing and mobility (particularly the prevention of sight loss in children and adults).

Story

In April 2026, I’ll be running the London Marathon — something that, not long ago, felt completely impossible.

At the start of this year, I was in the worst shape of my life. Running a startup while raising two young daughters had taken its toll, and I’d stopped prioritising my own health. I could barely get through half an hour of 7-a-side football without feeling completely drained — a tough pill to swallow for someone who’s always been active and loved sport.

In March, I decided to change that. I started running, stuck to a plan, and little by little, things began to shift. I’ve now lost 19kg, completed my first official 10k, and discovered something far more powerful than weight loss — a love for running, and the mental clarity it brings. It's had a profound effect on my mindset, my energy, and every area of my life.

But this marathon isn’t just a personal milestone. I’m running in support of Stickler Syndrome, a rare genetic condition that has directly impacted my family — particularly my amazing cousin Gemma, who lives with it every day. Despite the challenges, Gemma faces life with strength, compassion, and a level of courage that inspires everyone around her.

I’m running this marathon to raise awareness, funds, and hope for families living with Stickler Syndrome. The charity supports those affected, funds vital research, and gives people like Gemma the recognition and support they deserve.

If you’re able to support, whether it’s with a donation or simply by sharing this page, I’d be incredibly grateful. Every pound raised will go directly to a cause that’s close to my heart — and will help spur me on through every mile.
