Take a wee walk

Stuart Hemsley is raising money for Urostomy Association

Walking 31 miles in October · 1 October 2026

Take a wee walk to mark the first-ever Urostomy Awareness Month, to help support anxious patients before and after surgery, reduce isolation, break down stigma, and celebrate our community's resilience.

Story

Back in early 2023 I was told that I would never wee normally again due to advanced cancer in my bladder. I had major surgery in the July to have my bladder removed and a stoma formed on my tummy for my wee to come out into a bag.

Most people have never heard of a urinary diversion, and simply cannot imagine going through life without a functioning bladder.

That's why I've taken up the Urostomy Association's Take a wee walk Challenge this October. This Urostomy Awareness Month I'll be walking 31 miles to raise funds for the charity's Sign of Support appeal (https://urostomyassociation.org.uk/news/introducing-sign-of-support/).

Your sponsorship will be very much appreciated as the urostomy association have been there for me and I hope they will be there to support others on their journey too.

Your donation will help fund practical and emotional support, including the charity's helpline, patient packs, volunteer buddy scheme, 'meet the expert' webinars, website and so much more.

With your help, together we can prepare anxious patients for life with a stoma and reassure them that they don't have to face it alone; help is out there.
