Debt Relief Day 2026
Campaign by CAP Rugby (RCN 1137617)
We are 'wearing briefs for debt relief' on Friday 16th October to raise awareness of free debt help in Rugby and raise essential funds for the ongoing work of our Debt centre.

Story

Why am I wearing pants on my head, you may ask! I'd find it easier to walk 100 miles, like the typical sponsored event but this isn't just a fundraiser, it's also to raise awareness of how difficult it is to talk about debt and our finances. Our message is: Some things are embarrassing. Getting help with your debts isn't one of them - or shouldn't be! I'll be wearing pants whenever I'm out and about that week so I'd be really grateful for any support - and if you see me, please don't just cross to the other side of the road!

As many of you know, I've been working for Christians Against Poverty in Rugby as a debt coach for the last year or so, and it's really opened my eyes to the level of debt, and the huge impact it has on people's mental and physical health. It causes such isolation, sleeplessness and often despair, so it's been really rewarding to have a small hand in helping people become debt-free and finally have hope for their future.

CAP Rugby's Debt Centre has been serving households in the town and surrounding villages for over 16 years and has seen more than 1.3 million pounds worth of debt cleared through our service. We offer free, expert, client-centred debt help to anyone who needs it. We visit clients in their homes, with a volunteer befriender who supports and journeys with them each step of the way.

In Rugby, we have recently expanded our client capacity to meet the growing demand, and are launching money coaching workshops in the town and local prisons. Supporting our fundraiser enables this vital work to continue and the opportunity to bring hope and a brighter future to many more people across our town.

Many thanks for your support!
