Story
I’m excited to be running the York 10K to support the wonderful charity The Island. I have just started as a new volunteer mentor with them supporting a young person in the region.
I love the support The Island offers young people to help make a difference to their lives.
I had been running 5km on a regular basis over a number of years but injured my knee in September 2024 and I didn’t think I would be able to run ever again. Having been inspired by colleagues at work (York College) I started working on strengthening my knee with weights and doing daily 1km walks (with a bit of running) on the treadmill from about March 2025. As at the end of June 2025 I am running anything up to 7km without a break (slowly!) I hope to be up to a nonstop 10km by this race. 🤞🏼
Regardless of my running ability on the day (I will finish but might have to walk towards the end?) I hope to raise funds to support this amazing charity .
The Island provides essential support for vulnerable young people, offering mentorship, guidance, and the opportunity to overcome the challenges they face.
By running this 10K, I’m not just challenging myself, I’m also raising funds to ensure that more young people can benefit from the charity’s incredible work.
I’m asking for your support to help The Island continue making a real difference to the lives of young people in York.
Please donate if you can.
