Story
Thank you for visiting my JustGiving page.
The sad passing of my mother and some close friends has made me acutely aware of the importance of hospices and the incredible role they play in supporting people in end of life care. Hospiscare provide free, specialised care and support to patients, and their families. They rely heavily on donations as it takes over £10 million a year to provide this care. Currently they are unable to use all the beds they have due to a lack of funding. So many people are missing out on the care and support they offer. For this reason, I have decided to take on the Hospiscare challenge - Trek to the Himalayas, which sets off in October 2026.
The challenge involves walking for up to 8 hours a day, reaching altitudes of 2875m and camping along the route, which follows an ancient trail from the home of the Dalai Lama, passing through the mountain landscapes along the Karei Stream. I am looking forward to experiencing the rich culture and traditions of the region – and especially to spending two days volunteering with a local community project in Delhi! Trekking through the Himalayas will certainly be taking me out of my comfort zone and challenge me in so many different ways. Those of you who know me well will know I am not a great camper or a lover of spicy food and certainly haven’t walked these distances before! However, I know that this is nothing compared to the challenges faced daily by the patients, their families and the staff at Hospiscare.
I will be doing a number of fund-raising events over the coming months and would be very grateful of your support. All donations are much appreciated and will all be given to Hospiscare. If you are able and willing, and know friends and colleagues who would be interested in supporting me too, please feel free to forward the link to this page to them.
This challenge will push me to my limits, I am sure, but I am so excited to be doing it. Thank you for helping me to help Hospiscare and those facing the challenge of a terminal diagnosis.
