Team Humanities - 500 miles in June

“June ”
Middleton Central Foodbank provides people with 3-day supplies of emergency food. It is run to help support local people in need or crisis, and who are experiencing food poverty.

Story

We were inspired by the pupils at Edgar Wood Academy and the money they raised for local causes in the recent 'First Give' event. We have chosen a local charity in order to give back to the community we serve.

Mrs Gaughan-Pollard, Mr Griffin, Miss Barnes, Mrs Alafiatayo, Miss Heaton and Mrs Eaton have decided to walk/run 500 miles between them in June.

Middleton Central Foodbank was set up in 2014 to ‘stand in the gap’ for people experiencing short-term crisis. Currently the numbers of people needing emergency food support remains stubbornly high as people are increasingly impacted by the ongoing cost-of-living squeeze, and more and more people are drawn into financial hardship.

In 2024, the foodbank gave out the equivalent of 74,300 meals to people. They supported over 670 families comprising 1773 adults and 1076 children, so, nearly 2,850 supported.

The money that you give to us will help us to buy additional food supplies, and to contribute towards the running of the foodbank.
