Story
During the summer of 2023, I interned at The HOME Project, a refugee safe house in Athens Greece, where I taught art projects to refugee girls. I met so many people with different backgrounds and personal stories and learned about art and design through many lenses.
During my time volunteering, I worked with young girls living at the shelters on an art project called Faces of Our World (https://www.facesofourworld.org/). I was a founding member of this educational program, which aims to teach about refugees and foster empathy and understanding. Our project involved everyone drawing self-portraits and then sharing them with elementary school children in the United States. The U.S. students, in turn, drew their own self-portraits. The objective of this activity was to impress upon children in different parts of the world that we are more similar than we are different.
This collaborative and immersive experience was extremely impactful to the girls and so important to me. It continues to inspire me to stay involved in and give back in any way I can. This summer, we are working to raise money to purchase washers and dryers for a shelter. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you in advance for your help!
